hows the weather?
would like to dedicate this entry to my great uncle tom, who died this morning of cancer.. he gave me my first ever camera, and for that I am eternally grateful. rest in peace.
spent the day in germany…
met with one of my dearest friends lisa…
a fashion party themed on masks.
randomly met these two girls from barcelona whilst drinking tea by the pier… they drew pictures of me and aidan, whilst I made photos.
kai on his phone again, feel proud to see how far fashion photography has taken him, and how far he has taken fashion photography
rain rain and rain… initially no one dared to cross through the tunnel, except one lady in a wheelchair who placed her daughter onto her lap and rode straight through it.. the tourists at the other side all cheered, and I frowned at not having my camera at the ready.. made these shots just afterwards…
my little sister came to London, and I showed her the sights…
up on the roof…
high voltage cool!
cheeky!

peace

there’s some nice one’s, this http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/10.jpg would be a nice street shot, just miss the focus.
then http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/lisa.jpg and http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/62.jpg are nice portraits, i like the structure in http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/35.jpg
http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/28.jpg is blurred but has nevertheless a good mood
but you have some weird negs as well, i.e. this one http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/18.jpg with it’s colored stains - why not convert to grayscale after scanning? same with the sky in http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/26.jpg
and then there’s the borders which are just partially left like in http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/26.jpg - why not remove it completely?
and finally on some negs the emulsion seems to get off (as bernhard identified it) http://www.jamesdkelly.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/70.jpg

Oh a fob (pronounced like f-ah-b) is someone fresh-off-the-boat. You know, someone who either just came over from asian or is just super asian. lol
Comment by Jodie Miller — August 10, 2007 @ 8:49 am
ohhh, I see! never heard that expression before…
Comment by James Kelly — August 11, 2007 @ 9:58 am
sebastian, thanks for your constructive feedback on the photos…
@ coloured stains… sometimes I leave it because I quite like the feeling it gives, particularly in your example, because it was true to the surreal atmosphere of the moment for one reason or another.
@ borders… honestly? because im lazy, and this blog isnt meant to be some sort of gallery representation of my photos.. just a quick and messy way to show and document my life outside of work.
@ emulsion getting off… I still dont see it? in your example the only area I can identify what you might be talking about is on the wall, and I’m sure that was just the natural decay of the bricks..
cheers!

Some lovely photos; someone referred to them as moviestills in your journal. I very much second that.
I think no.57 (the portrait on the roof) is a fantastic photo. Not just because of that beautiful man - but those textures! Of the wet roof, the clouds in the sky, the brick wall, the material of the roof… Love it.
